Those of us who enjoy the companionship of animals will have to face their deaths on a number of occasions during our lifetimes. How we deal with the bereavement depends as much on our own ideas and beliefs as on our love for our pets. This is often a troubled and confusing time and most of us readily accept the offer of assistance in taking care of the arrangements. When the shock wears off we are often left wondering if we have made the right decisions.
The APPCC is currently the only organisation in the U.K. setting standards for cremation and burial of pets such that owners can understand the service being provided. Unfortunately owners may not always get the service they expect unless they use a facility that is not afraid to set out its procedures clearly in writing. We have launched the first set of definitions of after-death services for pets clearly outlining the different options available to owners. Click on the link to the left or below to view. We are promoting this as a code to be used internationally and are urging all veterinary surgeries to make use of these terms.
We also have our own code of practice for our members to ensure that high professional standards are achieved for the pet bereavement industry. So ignore all the gloss and the hype and ensure the treatment your pet will receive is clearly defined. Association members provide a genuine, personal and reliable service that will offer peace of mind to the bereaved.
